Louise Morris

After obtaining her Bachelor of Business Louise commenced her professional career with Ernst & Young in the audit division and progressed to the position of Senior Manager Taxation earning the Chartered Accountant designation along the way.

 

After 10 years with Ernst & Young Louise left that organization in 1991 to assist Martin O’Connor establish his boutique Chartered Accounting practice to provide taxation advice predominantly to high net worth clients involved in the horse industry.

 

It soon became apparent that the firm needed to be able to provide their clients with a more extensive range of services and Louise was the obvious choice to head the firm’s financial services division due to her long term interest in investment markets and Self Managed Superannuation Funds(SMSFs).

 

Louise became a partner in 2001 and continues to advise clients in respect of their taxation affairs mainly in the area of structuring to minimize tax, asset protection and the facilitation of estate planning wishes.

 

Louise has raced horses since her late teens (a long time ago) with her most notable success being Infinite Grace. She is a member of two metropolitan race clubs, Financial Planning Association and is a Specialist member of the Self Managed Superannuation Funds Professionals Association.(SPAA)

 

Louise is married with two teenage children and works hard at maintaining a work/life balance which includes spending time with her family and friends, travel, attendance at sporting and cultural events, bushwalking and reading.

 



Adam Tims B.Comm, CA

Adam holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a Practicing Certificate with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

 

Adam heads the firms’ taxation, accounting and business advisory division, being admitted to partnership in July 2001. He has extensive experience in the equine industry from a management and taxation perspective. Most of his clients are horse owners, breeders, syndicates, trainers, jockeys and horse industry associations. Many of his clients also have significant other “non-horse” businesses.

 

Adam started his career with Pitcher Partners spending almost five years there, which included a six month stint in London. During his travels he managed to fit in a month long safari through southern Africa. He satisfied withdrawals from usual visits to Flemington by attending the Grand National in Aintree, the Epsom Derby and a night meeting in Johannesburg.

 

An avid racegoer and horse owner, Adam is a member of all Victorian Metropolitan Race Clubs. He also represents jockeys in his capacity as a Director of the Victorian Jockeys’ Association (VJA) and is treasurer of the Victorian Club that is steeped in racing tradition.

 

Adam has written a large number of tax and accounting articles for horse industry publications and newspapers including the Financial Review and has appeared on talkback radio regarding tax matters relating to the horse industry. He is obviously passionate about the horse industry and sees the most important issue at hand being that of developing a united voice for the horse industry across states and across horse industry sectors.

 

Adam’s other interest/hobbies include St. Kilda Football Club, Giddy up Social Golf Club, going to the gym, traveling, eating out and catching up with mates.

 

 

Paul Scanlon B.Bus, CA

Paul pre-training was undertaken in a Bachelor of Business at Monash University in Caulfield and Paul served a long apprenticeship at a small firm in Blackburn, where he was awarded his Chartered Accountant designation. Paul joined the firm in the Spring of 2005 to enable him to combine his two passions of horse racing and assisting small business.

 

Paul has an extensive range of experience and knowledge in many facets of taxation, with a particular keen interest in the new superannuation regime and taxation principals as they apply to the horse industry. Paul regularly interacts with many local, interstate and international trainers, breeders, jockeys and owners with regards to their tax affairs.

 

Paul purchased his first horse with his father, an owner/trainer, as a 12 year old and rode trackwork and strapped the horse over its 100 start career, including wins at Caulfield and Moonee Valley. Paul is a member of the Victoria Racing Club and has attended many of Australia’s top racing carnivals, including the Birdsville Cup, Adelaide Cup, Gold Coast Magic Millions, Warrnambool in May, the Launceston Cup and Melbourne Cup week.

 

Pauls other interests include playing football and cheering on Hawthorn Football Club, cycling, travel, socializing, and overseeing his initial venture into small business with an ice cream parlour in Frankston.
